The Summer Youth Working Program is a government funded program run under the organization of Delmarva Clergy United in Social Action Foundation (DCUSA). Each year the staff at DCUSA has found this program even more beneficial for our children than the year before. The staff builds a relationship with the youth and this keeps them coming back. The memories and experiences taught here are valuable. Many of the returning youths have stated how grateful they were to work and learn through our program.

Who can participate in this program?
This program is open to anyone between the ages of 14-21 that meets an income requirement. DCUSA will advertise the Registration times for those that wish to apply. The applicants must register with all the necessary documents required  (including a working permit for anyone ages 14-17). They then go on to  fill out an application. After the applications have been submitted, an interview process will begin to select the workers. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applicants, everyone may not be hired but DCUSA will hire as many as possible.

What jobs will the youths be doing?
The youth will be working at worksites throughout Sussex & Kent Counties. Each worker is allotted to work no more than 240 hours per work term (July – September).

We expect for the youth workers to be very skilled in many areas at the end of the summer, including (but not limited to):

  • Clerical
  • Janitorial
  • Maintenance
  • Construction
  • Serving & Cooking
  • Housekeeping
  • Gardening
  • And much more

The staff will teach them information and skills that will better them for future employment opprotunities.

Our Goals for the program
Our goal is to recruit as many young people as possible and each year we succeed. We are working on our long term goal to have employment opportunities, trainings, counseling, Big Brother/Big Sister, year round employment and after school activies.
